Thanks to my commenters

I have been barraged by spam lately, which has hidden the real comments. Thanks to those of you who read and comment here, it means a lot to me. I know that my comment field is flaky lately- sometimes, after you submit a comment, you get an internal error. I don't think it's Movable Type, I'm guessing it's my server (again.) In my testing, the comment is posted every time, despite the error. So, feel free to comment! If one gets through twice, I'll just delete the duplicate.

My big news for today is that I was accepted to the grad school I have applied to - The University of Missouri-Columbia. I will start in that program in Spring of 2007. I am now in the process of applying for scholarships so I can actually pay for school.

I am still debating whether I will apply to more schools.

I attended the Nebraska Library Association's annual conference last week, and it was great. I will have lots to post about that, but I've been playing catch up.

Computer Projects

I have a lot of little projects around the house that may or may not ever be completed. One long time aspiration that finally has come to fruition is the creation of a Media computer to serve up video and music. I have this working (running Ubuntu) in the computer room, where we watch video on a 3rd monitor between our main monitors. I would like to hook the computer up to the living room TV as well, but that's proving to be a bit of a problem; video cards that can serve up two different monitors at different resolutions are usually expensive, the the TV does not have VGA input. (I did find an inexpensive one here, I may get just because it's cheap and may not be available forever)

I had another idea to take apart my iMac, (the monitor is broken) install Ubuntu (or, perhaps Xubuntu) on it and connect it to the TV in the living room. I don't even know if my little 233 mac could handle such a thing, but hey, it's worth a shot. I want to do this just for fun. I have an elaborate idea of stringing the computer parts out and using them as display pieces, but a real working computer as well. I like the idea of being able to see the inner workings of my computer.

Unfortunately, this idea would require either a new TV with a VGA input (which I would like anyway) or something that will translate VGA into s-video or component video- which seems like an expensive prospect. (Unless I can figure out how to do this.) I will keep my eyes out, and on the meantime, start saving up for a 32" flat screen. Fry's has had one for $500 for a while now.

I think tonight I will begin dismantling my iMac. Seems like a fun way to spend an evening.
