I installed WordPress on dalziel.org (My mom owns this domain, I’m hoping to turn it into a family blog). I am absolutely in love with WordPress, but am reluctant to switch for a few reasons:
- No support for multiple blogs. You have to reinstall the program each time you want a new blog. The biggest downside to this is that you have to have a seperate account for each blog. With Movable Type, if I wan tto have the same author for three blogs, I can.
-
- The naming scheme is different than Movable type. There are workarounds, but they seem like a lot of work.
- I’m used to Movable Type
The last 2 reasons, of course, are not faults of Word Press. I’ve been using Movable Type for so long. This blog is actually the third I have hosted on it. Before MT, I used Greymatter.
One of the big reasons I want to switch is that WordPress is free and open source, while Movable Type, while free, is definitely NO Topen source. MT also seems to be bulkier and slower.
I suspect this is a matter I’ll have to research more another day. Now, it’s off to do homework.
Just curious: have you ever looked into Expression Engine?
I have looked at expression engine, but if I’m going to change to something, it will be an open source solution. I don’t want to go to all the effort of changing and then have the terms of the license change on me (this has happened before with Movable Type- they changed back, but it was a pain)
